Jo Illsley and Jonathon Price started Bath Organic Blooms in 2007.
Our aim is to provide people with the opportunity to buy seasonal,
locally grown, organic flowers directly from the countryside on
their doorstep.
In 2009 we took on a beautiful Walled
Garden in the village of Mells, Somerset
to provide the perfect setting for selling flowers and plants and
offering afternoon teas to visitors. All our organic flowers are
now sold to the public through the Walled Garden.

Why Organic?
People ask why flowers should be grown organically; after all you
don’t eat them. Our view is that agricultural chemicals can
directly harm the workers that handle them and that water supplies
and wildlife are often left to mop up their residues. Preparing
perfect, pest-free petals within the modern flower industry also
contributes to a polluted atmosphere. A large proportion of High
Street flowers travel an average distance of 1,500 miles from stem
to store, adding significantly to global warming and pollution.
Organic growing practices, in contrast, protect the health of both
people and the environment. Organic growers take a holistic approach
to their crops, the soil and the environment ensuring that all benefit
from their activities.
We are Soil Association approved and receive regular inspections
to ensure that all aspects of our flower production meet their high
standards. This means that when you enjoy our flowers you can be
sure you are also making the best choice for the future of our countryside.
Why Local?
A thousand bunches of Gypsophila grown in England produce 143kg
of CO2. The same amount from Nairobi would produce 5,526kg just
in transport alone. If that’s not enough, we’d like
to champion our traditional flowers... flowers which have been found
in our cottage gardens for generations. Flowers that have a place
in our culture and our countryside and provide us with a link to
our heritage. Flowers, which are irresistibly and naturally beautiful.
Why Seasonal?
Roses for Valentine’s Day? Even in Ecuador they struggle to
force the acres of monotonous, sanitised red roses to flower in
February. How about a posy of beautiful Sweet Violets to show your
love? Seasonal flowers keep us in touch with nature and remind us
of our relationship with the natural world...
we hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
